Overview of YO3

Well with just 4 short weeks until the full release of YO3, we have found out quite a bit about what to expect from it. However so much of what is to come is still unknown. Here are some of the things we already know we will enjoy.

  1. Free Dueling: Surely this is the most appealing aspect of the new game to most players. The ability to duel to your hearts content without spending a dime.
  2. Card Renting/Trading: Sure you will have to pay to get pack cards from now on, but these new options lessen this blow considerably. If you truly can trade in old unwanted cards for new more useful ones, you may not have to spend very much at all to better your decks.
  3. New NPCs/Avatar Items/Cards: YO2 has gone without fresh content for far to long. Now that dueling will be free, dueling NPCs seems a lot more appealing. And with several new packs awaiting us, all new decks and strategies will emerge in the online dueling world.
  4. Deck Edit Advances: If you have spent any reasonable amount of time in the YO3 beta, you should have noticed by now the new options in deck edit. For starters you no longer have to drag the cards from the trunk to the deck area. A simple double click on the card in the trunk will move it automatically. There is a new filter option which makes it drastically easier to search for a certain type of card. You can filter anything from cards that increase/decrease lifepoints to cards that allow you to draw. You can also now search out groups of cards like Flip Effect, Spirits, Geminis, Toons, and LV Monsters, Tuners, and Union Monsters. We also now have a Tag function which is activated by right clicking a card in your trunk 1 or more times. This function would be much better if the tags stayed on even after you exit deck edit so that you could save a group of cards that you would use in just about every deck such as Monster Reborn, Heavy Storm, Mirror Force and the like. Or you could group together cards that might work well in a side deck. Unfortunatly right now at least, if you leave deck edit any tags that you place on your cards will be erased. This is something that I am hoping will change with the full release.
  5. Many More to Come: There is no doubt that there are many other upgrades and improvements that will be released in the near future. The end to the wait is just around the corner.

Beyond the above list, there is still so many questions that are left unanswered. Everyone is curious about what awaits us on March 1st and some of the things we would love to know include:

  1. What are the other 5 unknown areas for? It has been speculated that 1 will be an area for events (GS, DT, AT, YOC) and that another will be an Arcade, were minigames can be played. But we really dont know anything else. Unfortunatly the names like Stadium and Satellite Plaza dont give much insight at all to the area’s contents.
  2. How much will cards cost? Ok so we know that we will be able to buy Boosterpasses to get Boosterpoints to use in the shop to buy packs. But again this doesnt tell us too much. Will the cost of a Boosterpass be the same as a Duelpass? Will you recieve 30 Boosterpoints for every Boosterpass? If so and the cost of a pack stays at 15 Boosterpoints, thats only 2 packs per Boosterpass. Not good at all really. Will a Boosterpass be the same as a Duelpass in that you will recieve a Structure Deck? Or will the Structure Decks be placed in the shop and we will have to spend Boosterpoints to obtain them? There are a lot of unknowns here.
  3. Whats the point of the Avatars? So far the only time Avatars are seen during gameplay is during a duel. And even then only a head shot is shown. Are there going to be areas were our Avatars will walk around and interact?
  4. How many packs will be released? It seems likely that when the full version is released, we will at least have the packs that we had during the beta. But thats not set in stone. We could go back to only having The Duelist Genesis, or we could get all the packs that are in the database all the way up to Stardust Overdrive.
  5. Tag Duels? Its been a long on going discussion. When will we get to have Tag Duels online? There has been no concrete evidence that Konami has any plans at all to include them in YO3. But most remain hopeful regardless.
